The researchers want to convert this flipping movement into energy. This can be done by first giving the graphene plate a charge. Conductive plates are then placed on either side of the graphene. Because the plate with charge flips back and forth, a current starts to flow between the conducting plates. According to the researchers' calculations, a sheet of graphene measuring 0.01 by 0.01 millimeters can generate one millionth of a watt of power. That doesn't seem like much, but 20,000 of these types of pictures fit on the head of a pin. Large structures are therefore not required to generate a reasonable amount of electricity.
