The Great Digital Contradiction: We Call for Independence, Yet Remain Dependent

PUT-IT-ON Newsroom

Governments are talking about digital inclusion. Officials are warning about cyber threats. The business sector and politics are discussing AI, digital sovereignty, and economic resilience.

The message is the same everywhere: the digital future is urgent.

But there is a remarkable contradiction.

While Europe and national governments talk about reducing dependence on Big Tech, more and more professionals, companies, and knowledge are concentrating on a handful of international platforms. In the Netherlands alone, millions of people are active on LinkedIn. For many entrepreneurs, the platform has become essential to remain visible, build relationships, and do business.

That raises a fundamental question:

How autonomous is a digital economy when almost all visibility is determined by the algorithms of a few large technology companies?

At PUT-IT-ON, we believe that digital autonomy goes beyond infrastructure, AI, or cybersecurity. True digital autonomy starts with ownership.

Ownership of your profile. Ownership of your network. Ownership of your digital identity.

Not an algorithm that determines who sees you, but yourself.

Not being dependent on changing rules, paid visibility, or platform interests, but building a sustainable digital environment in which users maintain control over their own presence.

Just as governments are talking about digital resilience, European independence, and a strong digital economy, the urgency for alternatives that truly embody these principles in practice is growing.

Because an autonomous digital economy does not come about by just talking about it.

An autonomous digital economy is created by building it.

PUT-IT-ON has been working for years on a digital ecosystem without algorithmic dependence, where people, entrepreneurs, and organizations remain the owners of their own digital position.

The question is therefore not whether digital autonomy is urgent.

The question is how much longer we can wait before we actually take action on it.
