OUDDORP – Sun, sea, music and 33 degrees

While much of the Netherlands suffers under tropical temperatures, Ouddorp is filling up this weekend with thousands of music lovers for Concert at SEA. And to be fair: if there is one place where you would rather experience this heat, it's by the coast.

With a cooling sea breeze, a view of the beach, and a relaxed festival atmosphere, the North Sea coast is much more pleasant than the inland, where temperatures continue to rise. However, caution is still advised in Ouddorp. On Friday, temperatures up to 33 degrees Celsius are expected, and due to the intense sun, it may feel even warmer locally.

Fortunately, the organization has done everything possible to ensure that visitors can enjoy the festival safely and comfortably.

Smartly prepared for tropical temperatures

Concert at SEA shows that a festival can perfectly coexist with responsibly dealing with extreme heat. Various facilities have been implemented on the festival grounds to keep visitors cool.

Visitors can make use of:

  • Free drinking water at the toilets.
  • Free sunscreen available at the restrooms and in the CeraVe Sun Lounge.
  • Cooling water sponges at the front of the two largest stages.
  • Fog installations spread across the site.
  • Extra shady spots on the beach.
  • An empty plastic bottle (maximum 500 ml) is allowed inside this year to fill it yourself.
  • Own sunscreen (up to 250 ml) is allowed.
  • The advice remains: drink enough water and eat regularly throughout the day.

A simple but important tip applies to the journey to Ouddorp as well: bring enough water with you along the way.

Dutch summers are getting warmer

Where a day of thirty degrees used to be special, heatwaves seem to increasingly become part of the Dutch summer. Climate scientists have been observing a clear trend for years: longer periods of warm weather, more tropical days, and higher nighttime temperatures.

This means that events, visitors, and organizers need to prepare better for extreme weather conditions. As a result, festivals are increasingly investing in shade facilities, free drinking water stations, and cooling measures.

Concert at SEA shows how such preparation works in practice.

Enjoy, but listen to your body

A festival is, of course, about music, conviviality, and making memories together. Yet, it is wise to take a moment in the shade every now and then.

Do you feel dizzy, nauseous, or have a headache? Then seek shade immediately, drink water, and if necessary, report to first aid. A short break often allows you to fully enjoy the performances again afterwards.

Summer as we like to see it

With the North Sea in the background, bare feet in the sand, and thousands of visitors enjoying live music, Concert at SEA once again shows why it is one of the most beautiful festivals in the Netherlands.

The tropical temperatures may require some extra attention this weekend, but with good preparation, plenty of water, and common sense, nothing stands in the way of an unforgettable festival weekend.

And let's be honest: a summer festival by the sea, a refreshing breeze, and the sun slowly setting over the beach... that's exactly what the Dutch summer is all about.
