My name is Paul van Tatenhove and I got cancer

That was the sentence I started my story with last Saturday.

There I stood, vulnerable and sincere during the Power Event "Together Against Cancer" in Valkenswaard where I was allowed to share my story.

A story about hope and how you can turn a setback into an opportunity. An opportunity for yourself and for someone else.

Because you don't choose a diagnosis, but it changes your life. Setbacks hurt. Loss is real.

But it is often in the darkest valleys that you discover how powerful you are and who chooses to walk beside you.

My family. Friends. Volunteers. Caregivers. Donors. People who choose to be there for someone else.

That's where the true strength lies for me.

Not in reaching a summit, although that is indeed very beautiful, but the strength lies in climbing the mountain together.

We were not spectators, participants, or honored guests this weekend.

We were people who showed that love is stronger than fear, connection is stronger than division, and resilience is stronger than adversity.

And perhaps that is the most important lesson of all:

You don't have to move mountains to make a difference in someone's life.

That difference lies in that small gesture or in the first step you take to not give up afterwards!

I call that.... courage, dedication, and resilience!
