The American crypto company BlockFills is on the verge of collapsing

BlockFills crisis fuels fear of a new FTX scenario in the crypto market
The liquidity provider from Chicago, active in crypto lending and asset management for over two thousand institutional clients in nearly a hundred countries, has suspended client withdrawals.

You are facing a projected gap of 80 million dollars on the balance sheet.

According to those involved, BlockFills suffered losses of tens of millions in the mining, trading, and lending of cryptocurrencies, while the internal accounting showed significant gaps.

In a lawsuit, a creditor claims that the company subsequently used customer funds to plug gaps in the figures, a practice that evokes bitter memories of the infamous FTX fiasco in 2022.

Creditors have taken legal steps, and a restructuring is being prepared, but it is unclear whether this can still avert bankruptcy.

The unrest surrounding BlockFills comes at a time when confidence in crypto is already extremely fragile. The price of bitcoin has fallen back to around $70,000 after a flash crash in October, about 40% below last autumn's record high, as speculation with borrowed money wiped out earlier gains in a short period. At the same time, more crypto companies are struggling: crypto exchange Bit.com has halted operations due to poor market conditions, and developer Archblock is seeking protection from creditors, putting customer funds at risk once again.

Fear of a new domino effect in the vulnerable crypto market
Investors are particularly concerned about a domino effect, as BlockFills serves countless crucial parties in the market, from crypto exchanges and brokers to hedge funds and mining companies.

Large investors such as CME Ventures, Susquehanna Capital, and crypto lending company Nexo risk losing tens of millions in the event of a collapse, but smaller parties are also at risk.

They may be dragged along if positions need to be forcibly reduced. A new confidence shock could prolong the already smoldering crypto winter and cause further price shocks.

Differences between countries allow companies to easily relocate to more flexible jurisdictions such as Cyprus and Malta.

The crisis surrounding BlockFills again exposes how vulnerable the crypto market remains to poor risk management, inadequate oversight, and dwindling trust.

Voor beleggers en institutionele partijen is transparantie over reserves, tegenpartijen en toezicht cruciaal om te beoordelen of dit een geïsoleerd incident blijft, of het

A new round of crypto bankruptcies with FTX-like proportions begins.
