Remember my name: FAME!
How a film inspired me from a distance! Which film or hero inspired you?
In the ’80s, inspiration was simple: books 📚, TV 📺, and the people around you.
Now there are countless influencers 😬 the difference between being influenced and truly being inspired is more important than ever.
For me, that difference lies in staying true to yourself and choosing your own path. And if you get goosebumps, it tells you something essential that you should listen to ✨
Here are a few of my first inspirations, childlike as it may be:
• Bear Colarcol: a singing bear I was completely in love with as a toddler. Smart, vulnerable, and adventurous…
• Shirley Temple: the child star from the ’30s and ’40s, who embodied bravery and talent. She brought me tap dance shoes, curls in my hair, and dreams.
• Anne Frank: at eight years old, her diary deeply moved me. Her resilience and her ability to keep believing inspired me for life. “Dear Anne” I would write in my diaries to her!
And then came FAME (1980) with Debbie Allen as Miss Lydia. At that time, I was in high school, shy but full of dreams. Her words, from a distance, became my mentor: critical thinking is a privilege, success requires work, and growth does not come automatically. I wanted to go to this school…. but it didn’t exist!
Just last week, Debbie Allen won a lifetime Oscar award specifically for the inspiration she brought to many young people from a distance… including me.
My tip for the younger generation! Don’t be easily influenced. What one person needs is not the same for another. Choose your own path, take a moment to consider what truly makes you happy, and follow that path with energy and stay true to yourself.
Have a great weekend &
