✨Antwerp brought me back to my artistic origins

In het nieuwe jaar bezocht ik Antwerpen, de stad waar mijn creatieve reis ooit begon. Met de boemeltrein vanuit Essen was het een traveling moment in memorielane. Als 13-jarige reisde ik vanuit het dorpje naar deze grote stad en trad ik, jawel betaald op in een een zeer bijzonder Belgisch theatergezelschap, zingen, dansen, acteren. Zonder dat ik het wist, werd daar de basis gelegd voor het kunstenaarschap dat vandaag zo’n grote rol speelt in mijn leven. Mijn vader bedacht al snel dat mijn ambities meer nodig had en besloot hij dat we met zijn tweeën naar Antwerpen vertrokken.

During my visit last week, where I stayed at the Hyatt Lindner Hotel, which is highly recommended, I unexpectedly met one of the girls from that first group in one of the streets, and coincidence doesn't exist! In a second of recognition, it felt like the years disappeared. A reminder of how authentic creativity springs forth: through meeting, courage, and curiosity. A warm hug from her made me feel that connection has remained despite the time! This gave me insight into how you can create lasting impressions and memories in your youth.

As I continued to walk through the city… past the historic station, the cathedral, the market, and the Jewish quarter where I once lived, I felt again how these places continue to feed my imagination.
Antwerp is not a place for me; it is a source.
