A historic evening awaits the Nederlandse Vechtsportbond (NVB), which deals with kickboxing, muaythai and mixed martial arts (mma). Members of NOC*NSF will vote tonight on the entry of the federation as an aspiring member of organized sports in the Netherlands. NVB chairman Peter Kwint explains why this is so important. "Rico Verhoeven has always had to arrange everything himself. Now we can develop our own top-level sports policy."
What will change for the Dutch Martial Arts Association if you are part of NOC*NSF?
"It's not so much about what's changing, but mainly - as we also hear from the sector - about the full recognition that we missed in the past. That was largely due to the sport itself. It just didn't manage to become as strong in terms of organization as the Netherlands already was in sports from a sporting point of view, while 400,000 people practice martial arts every week."
