"Rotterdam is never just me, Rotterdam is always us"

"Rotterdam is never just me, Rotterdam is always us"
She is 47 years young.
She has lived in Rotterdam for 30 years.
39 (male) mayors preceded her.
On 10-10 in 010 Carola Schouten was installed as the new mayor of Rotterdam.
"Rotterdam is never just me, Rotterdam is always us"
This statement already typifies her - the importance of the connection of the people in our city.

A city with a history, with its face focused on the future.
In Rotterdam we often speak of 'a city without a heart' - a reference to the sculpture 'The Destroyed City' by Ossip Zadkine on Plein 1940.
Arms, legs, and hands point in different directions. In the middle of the hull is the hole: on 14 May 1940, the city centre was destroyed.
I thought it was beautiful and future-oriented how the new mayor spoke today about her heart for the city:
"My green-white-green heart beats just as well in sync with the rhythm of the piles that strengthen the backbone of Rotterdam. A heart that beats to serve our city and its people."
Good luck Carola in 010!
