The TV and theater producer shares concerns about the dominance of American tech giants in a full-page newspaper advertisement Joop van den Ende has
placed a full-page advertisement in various Dutch newspapers such as AD, NRC and De Telegraaf.
In this advertisement he calls on Dutch politicians to protect the Dutch media against the manipulation of American tech giants such as Meta, Amazon and X.
He speaks of alarm phase one now that President Donald Trump has the support of these companies and warns about stability in Europe.
Van den Ende emphasizes that these tech giants use their platforms to manipulate and abuse media.
He wonders what the Dutch government is doing to protect citizens against these attacks on our values.
He criticizes the cuts to public broadcasting and calls for additional investments to make independent journalism, entertainment and culture available to a wide audience.
In addition, Van den Ende is in favor of the takeover of RTL Nederland by DPG Media, despite objections that the newspaper publisher would become too dominant in the Dutch market.
He believes that this takeover offers a unique opportunity to take a stand against American domination with a Dutch-speaking company.
Van den Ende concludes his appeal with the message that choosing a healthy public broadcaster, vital commercial channels and a strong newspaper culture is choosing a civilized country.
