Brake on sales of electric cars in the EU: Germany in particular is slowing down Car sales were not only lower in the Netherlands last month.
Sales of new passenger cars also fell in other countries in Europe after a rebound in the previous month, according to monthly figures from the European car industry organization ACEA.
There were significant negatives, especially with electric cars. In total, almost 912,000 cars were registered in the European Union. That was 3 percent less than a year earlier.
In major markets such as Italy, Germany and France, sales fell by almost 7 percent. More than 28,000 new passenger cars were registered in the Netherlands.
That was almost 14 percent less than in May 2023.
