Character, clarity and concept
The Porsche 912 is a classic that shows that sportiness doesn't have to be fussy. A car that shows how much intuition can go into good design - not a sacrifice, but a decision in favour of the essential.
The presentation of the 901 - later renamed the 911 - at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show marked the beginning of a new era for Porsche. The successor to the 356 was not only more powerful, larger and more modern, but also more expensive. There was a desire for a new concept - a car that would bridge the gap between the 356 and the then new 911. The answer was the Porsche 912.
When Porsche unveiled the 912 in April 1965, the idea was clear: the 912 combined the best of both worlds. The proven power plant of the 356 with the design and platform of the new 911. Body, chassis, wheels, brakes - everything was close to the 911. But with a heart that came from the 356 SC: a four-cylinder pushrod engine with 66 kW (90 hp), which stands for reliability, character and everyday practicality, and has only been revised in terms of torque development and stability. The strength of the Porsche 912 lies in its concept - not in the number of horsepower. It stands for a conscious measure, for rightsizing, as one would say today. Less power, more balance. Less weight, more driving pleasure. 970 kilograms take it to 185 km/h.
A sports car that drives the way we want it to drive today: clear, direct, genuine
