Great discussions yesterday at StocExpo 2026 in Rotterdam.
I had the pleasure of presenting “Maritime Fuels in a Fragmented World” and participating in the panel “Energy Hub Developments in the Mediterranean.”
StocExpo remains one of the key meeting points for the global tank storage and energy infrastructure industry, bringing together terminal operators, EPC companies, ports, traders and policymakers to discuss the future of energy logistics and fuels.
My presentation focused on the growing constraints facing the maritime fuel transition. Shipping is not only dealing with the shift towards new fuels such as methanol, ammonia and biofuels, but also with a rapidly tightening regulatory and geopolitical environment.

Key pressures discussed included:
• EU regulations such as ETS, FuelEU Maritime and CBAM
• the global pathway under IMO Net Zero
• geopolitical disruptions affecting energy flows
• the growing fallout of the Hormuz–Iran crisis on shipping and fuel supply chains
At the same time, the panel discussion on Mediterranean energy hub development showed how ports and storage operators across Southern Europe, Turkey, Egypt and North Africa are positioning themselves to capture new energy flows and maritime fuel demand.
For the tank storage and infrastructure sector, these developments are not theoretical. They translate directly into new investments, terminal expansions and multi-fuel bunkering infrastructure projects.
At Blue Water Strategy, we continue to analyze how geopolitics, regulation and maritime energy systems are increasingly intersecting — reshaping the global fuel landscape for shipping.
Thanks to the organizers and fellow panelists for a very timely discussion.
