Changing Pilot Transfer Arrangements May Impact Yacht Design and Architecture
The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) Maritime Administrator has published Yacht Technical Circular (YTC)-18 on upcoming amendments to SOLAS Regulation V/23 and the IMO performance standards for pilot transfer arrangements. Entering into force on 1 January 2028, the updates will apply to existing and new yachts.
“The impact of these changes may be far reaching, especially for existing yachts, which may need vessel modifications to their pilot transfer arrangements to be compliant,” said Marc Verburg, Director, Yacht Operations. “We want clients to take a proactive approach and review arrangements in the early stages of newbuilds, refits, or surveys. Early engagement can assist in avoiding last-minute costly changes, delays in port, or operational restrictions,” he continued.
Captains of RMI-flagged yachts are encouraged to seek the assistance of the Yacht Technical Team. Yacht technical support is complimentary for all RMI-flagged yachts, and available in-person in key yachting hubs including Fort Lauderdale, Istanbul, London, and Roosendaal.
