Rasmalé Land Reclamation Project Reaches 30% Completion
The Rasmalé land reclamation project has reached a major milestone, with 41 hectares of new land successfully reclaimed so far—marking 30% overall progress.
Also known as the Maldives Eco City, Rasmalé is a transformative urban development project located in the Fushi Dhiggaru Lagoon, just minutes from Malé.
Spanning an impressive 1,150 hectares, Rasmalé covers nearly three times the combined land area of Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2.
The project is designed to directly address the Maldives’ housing shortage by delivering approximately 65,000 housing solutions, along with modern infrastructure and sustainable urban planning.
According to the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Rasmalé is set to become the largest land reclamation project in the Maldives, redefining large-scale urban development in the country.
Land reclamation works at Rasmalé Site A officially commenced on December 1, with operations being carried out using Jan De Nul’s trailer suction hopper
dredger (TSHD) Cristóbal Colón, one of the world’s most advanced dredging vessels.
